Current Research Interests
Rock magnetism and magnetostratigraphy on Yuanmou Basin,Yuannan Province
The Yuanmou Basin, which is situated 110km northwest of Kunming City, southwest
China , is a north-south elongated basin in the southwest part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
In the region , the Yuanmou Basin lies on the east edge of the Tibet Plateau, which is on the
south bank of Jinsha River ,the upper Yangtze River.
The basin is famous for its thick and successive late Cenozoic sediments that yield Hominoid,
Homo erectus yuanmouensis and others mammalian fossils, corresponding to the Nihewan Basin in northern China.
The basin has a 80 years history of research , however every author gives different interpretation on the age of Hominoid and Homo erectus yuanmouensis.
We want to combine biostratigraphy, lithostratigraphy and rock-magnetic stratigraphy to obtain reliable age determination for strata bearing these fossils.
